What is this tool?

Internet speed affects everything: streaming, videoconferencing, gaming, and downloading. When your connection feels slow, the first step is to measure it. This speed test sends data between your device and our server to measure download speed, upload speed, ping (latency), and jitter. Unlike tests that run entirely in the browser and can be inaccurate, this one uses real server transfers for more reliable results. No signup or app required—click Start Test and wait for the results.

Download speed is how fast data reaches you, measured in megabits per second (Mbps). It matters for streaming video, loading web pages, and downloading files. Upload speed is how fast you can send data—important for video calls, cloud backups, and uploading photos. Ping is the round-trip time for a small packet, in milliseconds. Lower ping means snappier responses; high ping causes lag in games and video calls. Jitter measures variation in ping; stable connections have low jitter.

The test works by transferring chunks of data and timing how long they take. Your results depend on your connection, your ISP, the server's location, and network congestion. Run the test a few times at different hours to get a sense of typical performance. If results are much lower than your plan's advertised speed, try a wired connection (Ethernet) and close other apps. Wi-Fi and shared connections can vary significantly. Use the test to verify you're getting what you pay for, or to decide whether you need a faster plan.

Troubleshooting often starts with a speed test. Before calling your ISP, run one and note the numbers. Compare to your plan: if you pay for 100 Mbps and get 95, that's normal variation. If you get 10 Mbps, something is wrong. The test helps rule out "is it my connection?" before digging into app or device issues. Developers and remote workers use it to check if their home connection is adequate for development and deployments.

Data sent during the test goes to our server. We don't store your results or personal information. The test is free and available to anyone. Run it whenever you need a quick check of your connection—before an important call, after moving, or when things feel sluggish.
